The City of Mulberry is always seeking civic-minded individuals interested in serving the community by being on a Board or Committee. This rewarding experience broadens your knowledge of local government and provides personal and professional development.
The City Commission has established several boards to assist in making important municipal decisions and review City programs, projects, and community concerns. These groups provide a wonderful opportunity for greater community engagement and citizen input.

NOTE: The City Clerk’s Office accepts applications all year long. Even when there are no vacancies, you may apply for a board or committee of your interest and your application will be kept on file for future consideration.
Planning Board
The City Planning Board is comprised of 7 citizens of the City. The Planning Board reviews and makes recommendations to the City Commission including but not limited to the following:
Act as local planning agency pursuant to the Local Government Comprehensive Planning and Land Development Regulation Act.
Advise and make recommendations to the City Commission regarding applications for amendments to the Comprehensive Plan or the Official Zoning Map and requests for conditional uses or other special designations on property within the city.
At the request of the City Manager, interpret and determine the intent of provisions of the City Code that are unclear or in conflict with other regulations.
Consider the need for revision or addition of regulations in the City Code and recommend changes to the City Commission.
Consider the need for revision of the Comprehensive Plan and recommend changes to the City Commission.
Zoning Board of Appeals
The City Zoning Board of Appeals meetings include public hearings where they primarily consider and make decisions on the following:
To authorize specific variances from appropriate provisions of the City Code will not be contrary to the public interest, in cases where literal enforcement of the Code will result in unnecessary hardship for the applicant.
To hear and decide upon appeals of administrative decisions where it is alleged there is an error in an order, requirement, or policy of City staff. The board may reverse or affirm, wholly or in part, the order, requirement, or policy of the administrative official.
The boards together are made up of 7 members appointed by the City Commission for 3-year terms. Board members shall be City residents or own a business within the City limits.
